MOISES CISNEROS

Cisneros
Full Name: Moises Cisneros
Age: 37
Single or Married: Single
Profession: Economic Development
What are 3 personal goals you have in your life?
1. Be the best husband and father I can possibly be
2. Become handy around car and home repairs
3. Live out loud
What are you most passionate about outside of MDI?
I have made a career around helping others achieve their business dreams. My consistent paycheck comes from assisting entrepreneurs expand or launch their business -I truly love business coaching. I receive a paycheck when an entrepreneur achieves multiple ahaaa! moments that strengthen his/her bottom line. As of 2 years ago, my life was my career -revolved around round-the-clock business meetings, lunches and cocktails at mixers and conferences. For the last 2 years, I have slowed down dramatically and only work 2 days out of the week at the Santa Monica Small Business Development Center. A grant from the Small Business Administration (SBA) allows us to hire ten consultants who specialize in various aspects of the business process and provide their services to clients (all at no cost to the client -the tab is picked up by the SBA). My colleagues are accountants, attorneys, human resources specialists, web developers, etc. I specialize in international trade import/export and foreign direct investment into economic development projects in the community. I love to travel and work has taken me all over Europe, Asia and Latin America dozens of times. I try to make a point of staying behind on personal time when gone on these trips. I stay at hostels and take public transportation to get to know the locals and culture more intimately. (I do the same in LA -love pretending im a tourist in my own backyard sometimes).
Other Passions:
- I'm excited about blurring the lines between the circle and the world outside
- I love live music -especially at the Hollywood Bowl or in any foreign city
- Spending quality time with my woman
- Spending quality time w/my men
- The downtown LA Art Walk once a month rocks
- I love to cook with whatever ingredients I can find in a kitchen
- I am challenged by being handy around the house -slowly i'm becoming the handyman I always wanted to be
- My father was a musician -I grew up listening to great mariachi and classic bolero and trio music from Mexico. Unfortunately, I cant sing for shit but, I appreciate art and music and have involved myself in the business aspect of the arts.
- My proudest moment/biggest paycheck was life-coaching my nephew (he lived w/me) for three years prior to being accepted into his university of choice -he is now getting his Phd in Biological Engineering from the University of Chicago -ho!.
- Being a role model for my 34 nephews and nieces
- Waiting for the next/final(?) season of Breaking Bad
What is your biggest strength?
My curiosity is my biggest strength. I'm not afraid of the unknown. I'll dive in entirely into something when I believe the journey might be helpful to my development or to those around me.
Biggest weakness / challenge?
I'm challenged by not being able to live out loud...meaning, I think about things too much -I'm in my head or more accurately, I get into other peoples heads to understand the various impacts my words will have on those around me....I tend to think about it too much. I want to be able to say what comes to mind quickly not caring what others are going to think or say too much. Wish I could not care if I fuck up -yes, I am a "trying to look good motherfucker". One of the major reasons I'm in a circle today.
What do you want the men to know about you?
*I was born in Mexico
*Was the first in my family to graduate from college
*I've produced concerts, clubs and business conferences (still producing business conferences). My favorite was producing a series of business conferences w/inspirational leaders headlined by Magic Earvin Johnson.
*I did a stint in Miami working for Versace right before my last semester in college
What do you NOT want the men to know about you?
*I'm not confident. I have been known to kill time in the hotel bathroom instead of networking at a high powered business event next door. I am afraid of failing and LOOKING bad.
What is the most impactful advice that you have ever received?
This one is hard. So much....The best advice I ever received was not told to me...it was modeled. My father passed away 3 years ago at age 82. It wasn't any one thing he said. It was how he lived his life -especially on the things I cant get down...he was charismatic, funny and loved by almost everyone. He was not only on time, but arrived with time; was patient with my mother, genuinely concerned for his kids, worked out every day of his life till his last....was a well groomed man -he loved using an old-skool product called "tres flores" a classic Mexican version of gel. Most of all, he loved me. I understood his love for his kids when he rhetorically asked "Do you know why I go out of my way to be kind and loving to your sister's and brother's in-law? Because I want them to treat my kids the way I treat them".
I came across a quote recently that got me thinking -ugh there I go again...thinking. It's a quote by Hemingway: "Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know". It reminds me of a question I ask myself when i'm about to get into an potential argument w/my woman "is being right more important than being happy?".
