emotions about women

Setup: Theater-style
GEL: As men we often consider ourselves lone wolves. We take pride in being self-sufficient, independent, in having everything handled, in being invulnerable. Life would be so great if it weren't for all those other people getting in the way. Sometimes, we wind up in a relationship with another person.
GEL: Through sometimes-painful experience we learn to relate to others throughout our lives. Some relationships are long and rewarding, others just long, and many others are shorter and we pass through them.
GEL: What relationships cause you the most difficulty in your life? (Get some quick feedback - somebody will mention women). Let's look at women. A wise man said "Women are awesome gifts in our lives, showing us where we stand as men in the world. When relating to women we can have doubts. Women don't give us those doubts, they are already within us, and show up when we approach the object of our desire." Women test us in a way similar to a termite inspector, who pokes his knife at the wood of your house. Most of the time the wood is solid and the knife is resisted, but when there is a weak spot the knife goes into the wood. When a woman finds your weak spot, which they will, what happens to you?
GEL: Now, break into small groups.
SGEL's ask these questions and get answers from participants. Focus on the questions, and make sure each man goes in the time allowed. Do not try to process the answers or resolve the men's issues they have stated. The goal is to identify the emotions, the doubt, and the belief that the man may have carried since childhood, and to present the possibility of changing men’s belief systems.
1. What strong emotions have been triggered recently in your relationship with a woman?
2. If those emotions caused you to go into some doubt about yourself, how would you describe that doubt? (Example: I doubt my ability to communicate)
3. Looking deeply, what do you believe about yourself that causes these doubts?
4. What would be a belief that would serve you better in having great relationships?
After everyone has spoken and answered the questions, everybody convenes into the larger group.
GEL: Does anybody have something they would like to say?
The GEL can bring the archetype shadows into the process at this point.
